Creative Teaching Starts with Reading: Our Summer 2025 Series
Matthew Worwood::
Hello, and welcome to another episode of the Fueling Creativity in Education podcast. We keep getting more and more special in our episodes because we’re back again, Cindy. We’re back again. We’re doing an episode together in person.
Cyndi Burnett:
I know, it’s so fun. And we are in Boston, Massachusetts, and we have been doing a retreat and planning our upcoming academic year.
Matthew Worwood::
We have. And as part of that planning, we have been playing a little bit around with SEO and trying to see how we can improve our podcast. In terms of the search results, we identified some cool keywords, some possible new tagline that we’re going to play around for next year. And we’ve also been playing around. We’ve also been working on our super duper special project, which is part of our goal for 2025.
Cyndi Burnett:
Yes. And that super special project is the summer Listen and Learn series.
Matthew Worwood::
Or a book.
Cyndi Burnett:
Our book. Oh, we’ve got so many things going on here, so. Yes, we do. We have signed a book contract with Prufrock. I was going to do a drum roll.
Matthew Worwood:
Sorry. Drum roll. Okay. Yes. Yes, Prufrock Press.
Cyndi Burnett:
We are doing a book on the podcast looking at all 130 episodes that we have done with 130 interviews, and then over 200 episodes we’ve done, and we’re compiling a book. Should we tell them the name or should we wait on that?
Matthew Worwood:
No, because we might change the name.
Cyndi Burnett:
We’re not going to tell you the name, but it’s a good name.
Matthew Worwood:
Yeah, it’s. It’s a good name that might continue to change into an even better name. But I would say that what we’ve been doing is. Is for those of you that listen to the podcast regularly, you know that we kind of curated these 10 actions for fueling creativity in the classroom, and they’ve come from all of the amazing guests that we’ve had on the show. These are things like build relationships, ask questions, initiate discussions. So a. You know, I would say a big chunk of our time today was spent just kind of revisiting those 10 actions for the book. We actually.
Matthew Worwood:
We won’t say, but we took one out at the last minute and put another one back in that we had taken out originally. So that’s been kind of fun. And then while we were here at the retreat, we. We figured at the very last minute, why don’t we have a go at just using the Apple phone, recording the introduction to our Listen and Learn series, which is also super duper fun.
Cyndi Burnett:
So we do have a special summer Listen and Learn series where we have five books that we are going to recommend. And we’ve invited those authors to come and talk with us. But for a super short episode, we don’t want to take up too much of your summertime as we know that you are spending time with family, hopefully, and friends and enjoying the sunshine. And so we have brought five different authors on. So we’ve got, first off, we have Zarana Pringle, who was a guest on the show way back when, maybe season seven. We had Zorana Pringle Ipschevicz talking about her new book, the Creativity Choice. And then we have Anna Abraham talking about the Creative Brain, who was also a guest on our show and is the chair of the Torrance center for Creativity at the University of Georgia. Then we have Katie Trowbridge from Curiosity to Create, talking about her latest book on deeper thinking in the classroom.
Cyndi Burnett:
And then Principal Al Whoa, we all love who was on the show, probably season three, talking about his book. And finally, we have a children’s book author who has not been on the show, but is a very special friend of mine, Barney Salzberg, who will be coming onto the show for the first time to talk about his children’s books that he has coming out. So you can add both to your collection as an educator, as a creative practitioner, and as a teacher working with children. If you’re working with children.
Matthew Worwood:
Yes. And speaking of collections, that is a super big buzzword now for the podcast because Cindy and I, you know, I’ve been working on our website for almost 12 months now, and one of the things that we’re really excited about is all of these episodes that we’ve kind of curated into collections. And you can go to our website fueling creativitypodcast.com collections and you can see all of our collections there available for you. And we will also be releasing those collections on LinkedIn once every couple of weeks over the summer. And we’ll be having a conversation around that, that, that kind of collection topic. So, for example, we have, we just released Creativity and stem. So all of our episodes that explore creativity and STEM topics. And when we talk about stem, that was a fun conversation actually, wasn’t it? Because we was talking a little bit about stem and I was kind of like threw out there that, well, STEM is kind of like emerging into this interdisciplinary learning experience, which is really about bringing all four subjects into, you know, some type of learning activity, learning event.
Matthew Worwood:
And you pointed out that actually also sometimes we can be talking about the independent STEM subjects as science or math. And we’ve had Some good episodes haven’t we around kind of like creativity and chemistry or creativity and math with someone like Joe Bowler. So that collections page has that interdisciplinary side of STEM as well as kind of some episodes focused on STEM subjects. And then another one that we recently shared on the collections was the gifted and education one as well.
Cyndi Burnett:
So it was creativity and gifted education. And I will also mention we have 10 collections that we’ve outlined. But if you see. If you go to our website and you say, why don’t they have a collection around this, please email us@ideasuelingcreativitypodcast.com and let us know because we think we got 10 that we really think are solid collections. But if there are collections that you think are missing, we want to hear from you.
Matthew Worwood:
Absolutely. And listen, when it comes to our retreat and making me feel about what we’ve accomplished today, we also took time to re rename those collections to try and improve with the SEO and search results. We got to do more about that. We’re really proud of the show. It’s been a great passion project and now we feel like we’re to that that next level, which is just in essence getting out there a little bit more. And we’re uncovering new things, aren’t we? We’re discovering new things about digital media marketing and the whole thing about podcasting.
Cyndi Burnett:
Well, and building on that. We have been working on our YouTube station for the podcast. Actually, I should say Matt has been working on our YouTube station. And a special shout out to Lucas Warwood, who is Matt’s son, who has helped been helping build up our our podcast on YouTube.
